Summary

Watch a video demo of the PhotoRobot workflow on the Centerless Table to photograph eyewear and sunglasses for eCommerce. This demo presents how we eliminate unwanted reflections when capturing 360 spins of glasses using our automation-driven 360 turntables. See how PhotoRobot quickly produces the hero image, marketing angles, and the 360 spin – with minimal post-processing necessary. This is thanks to special photography techniques to minimize glares during capture, and also the automation of hardware & software that drives production. Our photographer Erik demonstrates, highlighting the use of PhotoRobot’s Centerless Table. The machine is optimal for shadow-free product photography of small to medium size items. Careful automation then enables the capture of predefined, “safer” angles to avoid reflections. This means we can achieve professional quality images in under one minute. In turn, the result is a collection of web-ready still images and a 360 spin that requires minimal to zero retouching. See for yourself just how PhotoRobot’s approach transforms complicated photography procedures into single-click processes.

00:00 Hello, and welcome to another product photography demonstration in the PhotoRobot showroom. In today's video, I join our  real-life photographer Erik, as we take on another challenge in  product photography: How to photograph eyewear on a motorized 360 turntable.  Sure, glasses and sunglasses look great from a low angle, but what about when some angles  of rotation create unwanted reflections? Not only does this pose challenges when capturing  image galleries, it makes capturing 360 spins near impossible, right?  Well, here, we have to disagree.

00:33 At PhotoRobot, we’ve found a combination of hardware, software, and automation to streamline the creation of web-ready  photos of glasses and sunglasses. Ready to see how? Join Erik and me in the studio  to follow along with the production process, and get professional insights into  eyewear product photography! Typically, reflective or glass surfaces act as  mirrors in the wrong light, so an item like this might call for extensive post production.  So how do we quickly and easily capture these

01:02 without the need for heavy photo editing later on? For this photoshoot, Erik has positioned  the sunglasses on the glass plate of PhotoRobot’s Centerless Table.  The Centerless Table is PhotoRobot’s solution for shadow-free product  photography of small to medium items. Its design aims to maximize production  processes, even when shooting more difficult types of transparent or glossy products.  Now, before the photoshoot, we told our software which angles to capture, identifying “safer”  shots that wouldn’t produce a reflection.

01:33 These, Erik uses to create Preset  that tell the software which angle to capture for each image.  Erik also designated folders for each output: the hero image, a  6-image gallery, and a 360 spin. We’ll start with the hero  image and our gallery. At this point, with the product on  the turntable, all Erik has to do is scan the “Start” barcode.  The software communicates with our hardware & camera, automating the photography  sequence to capture our designated angles. Then, in one single rotation of  the turntable, PhotoRobot skips

02:01 all angles that create strong reflections,  capturing only the angles we specified. Meanwhile, our Presets fully automate  post-production, meaning each photo is immediately available for online publishing.  But what about for the 360 spin? Here, we found a really simple trick that  significantly improves production time. The only thing Erik has to do is increase  the elevation of our robotic camera arm, and then photograph the product again.  And for this 360 spin output, we have assigned another convenient Preset.  The Preset instructs our robotic camera

02:34 arm to adjust elevation automatically  after capturing our still images, and before shooting the next rotation.  This enables us to capture All of our outputs in only two rotations of the turntable.  Take a look for yourself: We have a hero shot, an image gallery and a 36-frame product spin that  we photographed at slightly higher elevation. All of this, we can usually  achieve in under 1 minute, including automatic backup of original photos,  post-processing and publishing online. We’re talking about no-retouch, highly  productive product photography here.

03:07 Our product images are web-ready: automatically  cropped & centered, with the background removed around the object. And this is all  according to our Preset specifications. The software has even sharpened  our image, and notice: there are absolutely no reflections or shadows in  our product photos or in our 360 spin. This means all of our outputs  are now ready to publish, and it looks like Erik’s work here is done. At  least for this first pair of sunglasses. He does have several more items on  today’s shooting list, but he could

03:36 easily photograph another 10, 20, or even 50  pairs of glasses before slowing down. In fact, we’ll let Erik get back  to work in peace for now. If you found this demonstration useful, you can find links to more product photography  resources in the description of this video. We thank you for watching, and from  the PhotoRobot team to your business, we wish you continued success in all of  your creative and photographic endeavors!
